Sunday Linky Party #91 + Goodies

Hi all, hope you had a good Christmas Eve/Day or just a good week in general! Now it's time for the New Year, which means new beginnings and resolutions. So now that we've learned the world didn't end, what are your plans for making 2013 better than 2012? My resolution is to be more physically active and buy less stuff. I generally try not to buy things I don't need, but I think I can do better. But I suppose that if there's a time to get some great deals, January would be the best month... And that's how I get in trouble.

Anyway, check out this week's gallery of fun projects and recipes!

Check out this gorgeous punched tin ornament/candle holder! It looks like something you can find at a posh home decor store. I also love the gold/black combo, which looks so sophisticated :) Get the tutorial at The Thinking Closet!

Sunday Linky Party #90 + Merry Christmas!

Hi all, hope you're having a good weekend! Only one more week until Christmas, so I'm sure everyone's preparing for the home stretch :) Luckily, the craft portion of this week's gallery is all Christmas ornaments (which wasn't planned, I swear!), followed by some holiday sweets which I'm sure your friends and family will enjoy. As for next weekend, I will be taking it off (holiday weekend ;) so the next Sunday Linky Party will be on Dec. 30th. So until then, please have a wonderful and safe holiday season! Take care and enjoy yourselves whether it's hectic or relaxing!

Make these easy clay ornaments using ingredients found in your home! This is a great project to do with family, especially kids. Have everyone add their personal mark to your Christmas tree :) Find this at Lemon & Lime Thyme.

Sunday Linky Party #89 + Goodies

Just came back from the office holiday party and I'm so tired. Plus I have a headache. But it was delicious and fun, and we played the White Elephant party game, except everyone had to bring something they already own that's been lying around the house as a gift, which made it very interesting. If you're not familiar with what a White Elephant party is, basically, everyone brings one gift that could be given to anyone else at the party, puts them in a pile, then picks a number. Whoever goes first picks a gift from the pile and anyone else afterwards can steal one of the already opened gifts or pick an unopened one. Each gift can only be stolen twice. Now when you throw in the whole "used" part into the game, you get a bunch of really interesting stuff. For example, a jazzercise video from the '80s, an old real pigskin football, a creepy hand on a stick... yeah, don't know where my coworkers got that.

Anyway, are any of you hosting a White Elephant Christmas party?

You know there'll be lots of wine-drinking this season (except for me because I'm pregnant), and this is such a great way to make use of all of those wine corks! Instead of throwing them away, make lots of stamps and get started on decorating your wrapping paper and cards! Great idea, Soap Deli News :)

Sunday Linky Party #88 + Goodies

Hi all, hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a fruitful Black Friday/Cyber Monday (if you participated in the frenzy!) I spent dinner with the in-laws and another dinner with my dad's side of the family (on different nights, of course), and I definitely ate too much, especially now that my tummy's getting pretty large so it's uncomfortable to eat too much at once! As for house-hunting, we found one and hopefully will get to move in before Christmas, although if we miss that deadline, I'll still be thankful we've found a new place to live :) I can't wait to start decorating the place and finally getting into baby-room-designing! As for now, I can only look at all these amazing diy projects online and bookmark them until the time comes. I'm really itching to start though!

Although it's hard to tell from the photo, those banners are actually made from aluminum cans! Yep, make use of all those soda cans and make a metallic faux zinc banner, from Twigg Studios. Try her other tutorials, too: hanging Christmas bauble vase, winter wonderland bauble, Christmas made easy, and glitter pumpkin place settings.

How do teens spend/stash their money? [infographic]

I'm a fan of managing and budgeting my money (it is fun!) so now that I'm having a baby girl in a few months, I've been thinking about when to put money away for her college fund, when to open a bank account for her, and whether to give her an allowance or not. Maybe I'm jumping the gun a little, but we all want our kids to eventually be independent, right? Anyway, I found this fun infographic and it gives me a glimpse at how other American teens are earning and spending their money. What do you think of it?

Sunday Linky Party #87 + Goodies

Here comes another Sunday, and next week is Thanksgiving! :) How many of you are roasting turkeys? Or are you taking a shortcut and going with ham instead? Ham is a little easier to make than turkey... at least for me. Anyway, I will be taking next Sunday off, so no Sunday Linky Party next week, but it will start again the week after! I'm sure you'll all be super busy preparing meals and traveling to spend time with family. Anyway, check out this week's gallery of crafts and recipes!

Find out how to make some beautiful wallpaper coasters and where to get free wallpaper samples for the project! Find this from The Thinking Closet. Also, check out her "10 Tips for New Bloggers" post!

Sunday Linky Part #86 + Goodies

Happy Sunday everyone! Looking forward to the next holiday yet? I am, and I really hope we find a new home by Thanksgiving (because that would be awesome). Here are some great tutorials and recipes for the season (plus lots of yummy cake recipes!) I'd love to try them all, and I suppose I can handle a little extra sugar for the holiday season... :) yep!

This is what I call a two-for. Here's a tutorial for how to make the cutest gingerbread cookie decor ever and a recipe (so you don't have to go looking for one to decorate :) Check this out at Twigg Studios, and get her other tutorials: feather baubles, stamping with feathers, paper leaves, and metal bucket advent calendar.

Sunday Linky Party #85 + Goodies

Alright, keeping it short and sweet tonight. Just got back from a dinner/movie date with my husband (we watched Wreck It Ralph, which is that new Disney movie for kids... but it's really good!). I recommend watching this movie whether you have kids or not, especially if you are looking for a feel-good movie with lots of good intentions, slapstick humor, and video game characters.

Sunday Linky Party #84 + Goodies

Hi everyone! Hope you're having a great Sunday so far. It's almost Halloween which means there are only a few days left to get all those decorations and candies done! I don't think I'm dressing up this year (Weds are not great for Halloween :p), but I'd love to know if any of you are dressing up and what you're planning to be :) I think matching couples or parent/kid costumes are cute! Anyway, check out the amazing gallery of tutorials and recipes this week (we've got a lot of glassware tutorials :), and have a great holiday!

If you're having a Halloween party, make these edible place cards and get everyone to eat their serving of fruit per day! Head to Meeha Meeha for the tutorial.

October 21, 2012

Sunday Linky Party #83 + Goodies

Happy Sunday all! It's less than two weeks until Halloween (which, unfortunately, falls on a Wednesday this year). Instead of making Halloween October 31, it should just fall on the last Saturday of every October, kind of like how Thanksgiving always falls on the second-to-last Thursday of every November. Isn't that a great idea? Now how do we get them to make that change?? Well, hope you enjoy this week's features!

For something other than your typical pumpkin, (maybe something more chic rather than scary, to fit your style, of course ;), you can go the neon pumpkin route, like Meeha Meeha!

Sunday Linky Party #82 + Goodies

Hope you're all having a great Sunday and weekend so far. Sunday Linky is back up this week! I had two cakes last week - one from work and one from home, soooo that was very satisfying :) There's nothing much going on for me this weekend, except the ongoing search for a new home. Hope you all enjoy the recipes and tutorials this weekend!

Want to smell like fall all day and get soft skin at the same time? Then pamper yourself with this fall spice sugar scrub, complete with all those flavors that make you feel all warm and cozy inside :) Just don't eat it! Get this tutorial at Soap Deli News. Try her diy mango shimmer tinted lip balm as well.

Happy Birthday (to me :)

Hi all, it's my birthday today (or, yesterday, which is Saturday) so I'm taking the weekend off for this week's Sunday Linky Party. Sorry I forgot to give you all a heads-up in the last Linky Party! Even I forgot it was my birthday because I've been preoccupied with other thoughts (work, doctor's appointments, looking at housing because we're planning to move soon...). By the way, I'm having a girl! :)

So, I've extended the time frame for last week's Linky Party (so you can add more posts if you'd like) and will post features next weekend!

Sunday Linky Party #81 + Goodies

Omg, there were so many good craft projects this week, I wish I could feature them all :/ but I just ended up featuring a few more than usual. You should really check them all out! :) Must be the Fall weather and anticipation for warm and fuzzy holidays. There are also lots of great recipes so that's a plus because we'll all be making big dinners (or just eating them) soon. Let the gallery begin!

Start off Halloween with the latest fashionable patterns (or just your favorite ones) on fabric covered pumpkins using this tutorial from Alderberry Hill. The best thing is, you can use these year after year (if you use plastic pumpkins, not real ones)!

Sunday Linky Party #80 + Goodies

Hi all, here's to another good Sunday, I hope :) Been online shopping a lot, which is painful for my credit card, but being pregnant means baby stuff must be bought. Anyone have stroller or crib shopping tips? There are so many items, I don't even know where to start.

On another note, Halloween is coming up in a month so it's about time to start planning for decorations (especially if you're making them), so below are some great projects and recipes! Too bad you can't giveaway home-baked goods (for safety's sake), because they're much better than all those little candies!

Make these festive Halloween glass blocks with lights, and switch out the lights and message for Christmas and other holidays as well! These glass blocks can be bought at Home Depot, but you can use any glass container you want (that has a hole for the light cord). Find this tutorial at Alderberry Hill and check out her fall center piece project.

Sunday Linky Party #79 + Goodies

So, school has started and that means the start of fall is is really happening. I've even seen Halloween decor in stores now! I'm a big fan of summer so this is a little sad, but I'm sure all the pumpkins, spices, and aromas of fall baking will sooth that ache. Brown sweaters and boots will help, too. Good thing there are lots of fall-inspired recipes and crafts this week, with more to come :)

I love the design of this peacock pillow! It's so creative and the fabrics chosen add such flair :) Download the pattern and make this pillow for your home with The Sewing Loft's tutorial.

Review: Cygnett Alumni iPad Case

Hi all, if you're getting a new iPad (or already bought one) and are deciding on a case for it, give this one a look over. I was given an iPad case about a month ago from Cygnett, and after some use, I'm now ready to write a review about it.

Here it is! Ta-da! As you can see, I cleaned up my front page a little bit...

Sunday Linky Party #78 + Goodies

Hi all! Today is my husband's birthday and we're going to eat at our favorite buffet! Great excuse to pig out, isn't it? Of course, it helps that the birthday person gets to eat free :) Anyway, on to this week's features!

These look like soaps, but they're actually organic lemon lavender scented bath melts, which means they're made of lots of moisturizing good stuff for you to take a relaxing, fragrant bath. And for the mold? All you need is an ice tray! Make this luxurious bath melt for yourself or to give away as gifts, from Soap Deli News. For more projects, try her organic bath tea/salt soak, lavender sachets, and chalk board game table.

Sunday Linky Party #77 + Goodies

Happy Sunday everyone! It's Labor Day on Monday, any plans? I'll actually be working, but that's okay because I'll spend Sunday afternoon hanging out at my close friend's birthday/bbq :) Anyway, I've been terrible. I found my Oregon Trail 3rd Edition cds (that my parents bought for me back in elementary school) and have been playing it all afternoon... -__- I was able to install it on Windows XP, even though it's made for Windows 95, and it was really fun. I think my favorite parts of the game are the fishing, hunting, and fruit/vegetable gathering (and, of course, surviving until the end). Yeah, pretty lame huh? Anyway, check out this week's features! :)

Here's an easy and simple way to make chevron patterns on fabric so you can make a pillow like the one above, or curtains, table clothes, chair covers, and whatever you want. Check out the tutorial at Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom.

Sunday Linky Party #76 + Goodies

Happy Sunday everyone! There are a lot of home decor/renovation projects today and they're pretty amazing, so time to get out your tools :) Check out the yummy recipes, too. I'm really thrilled about this week's picks so I hope they'll inspire you as well!

How cool is this window pane coffee table??? I love it and I definitely want one in my house! If you want to make one too, just head over to Marty's Musings and click on the link from her post.

Sunday Linky Party #75 + Goodies

Hi everyone, hope it's another good weekend for you all. I know it's still summer, but I can't help feeling a little sad that it'll soon be over thanks to all the back-to-school commercials and shops preparing for fall. Can we keep the extra long days and sunny weather year round? Maybe I need to live on a tropical island :) Anyway, I'm also feeling extra sensitive to the time passing because I'm pregnant (as I've announced in the prior post)! I had my second ultrasound a few days ago and I can't believe how much the fetus has grown since the first ultrasound (which was only 2 weeks before then). It (don't know the gender yet) already had tiny fingers and toes and was moving around! Pretty crazy stuff. Anyway, onto this week's features :)

Make this awesomely amazing origami kusudama ornament for your Christmas tree! If you start now, you'll have enough for your tree AND someone else's too! You can even give a bunch to your favorite people :) Learn how to make them at Ashley's Dandelion Wishes.

The Greatest Surprise

Hi all, guess what? I'm pregnant! :) Yeah, pretty exciting. Saw the doctor last week and I'm 11 weeks along, which means it's too early to tell whether the baby will be a boy or a girl. Either way, aside from feeling crappy occasionally, the confirmation of my soon-to-be first child hasn't quite marinated into my brain yet. Essentially, I walk around feeling queasy and confused because my jeans grew too tight too fast. I'm just hoping that everything will progress smoothly and the baby will be healthy and I won't have a painful, long, drawn-out birth (and hopefully not like the ones in the movies :) Luckily, my husband (the ob/gyn resident) assures me it's not like the movies and we watched "The Business of Being Born" (the documentary where Ricki Lake gives birth on camera) together. It's pretty interesting.

Boy or Girl (pink/blue) Gender Reveal Party Printable by genderreveal

I've picked the perfect girl name already, but still haven't found a boy name that I particularly love. Any suggestions? I've also been testing out several pregnancy apps on the iPhone, so I'll break down what I think are the best ones in another post!

Sunday Linky Party #74 + Goodies

Happy Sunday everyone! I'm pretty tired this weekend so I've been catching up on my sleep. It's been way too hot for me to want to go outside much anyway. I'll keep it short so we can get to the features below :)

Make these super cute clay flower buttons (but these would make awesome earrings too! Just glue earring posts to the back). Make matching sets for your kids or your best friend :) by Twigg Studios. Check out her other tutorials: dip dyed twine, print and cut silhouette, tracing paper food wrapper, and mannequin tag tutorial.

Sunday Linky Party #73 + Goodies

So I finally watched The Dark Knight Rises today and it was pretty good! I wasn't sure how Anne Hathaway would do as Catwoman (she looks more doe-eyed and innocent to me than a deceptive slinky feline), but I can't think of any complaints so far. I was really surprised by the ending! Not going to say too much about it, but it definitely was the kind of ending that fans probably wanted and had dreamed of (and very satisfying), although because it was such an ideal ending, the kind many people probably wanted Batman to have, it seemed too good to be true to me. I didn't think it was realistic, but it definitely made me happy :)

Anyway, hope you're having a great Sunday and check out the features below!

Top off your beautiful cupcakes with even more beautiful decorations: flower cupcake toppers! These are so pretty, your guests will want to keep them and take them home. Get this tutorial at Twigg Studios and check out her ombre ribbons, turning your paintings into digital art tutorial, and printing on tissue paper tutorial.

Sunday Linky Party #72 + Goodies

Hi all! Did anyone see the opening ceremony to the Olympics in London this Friday? It was pretty exciting, and I liked their reference to their industrial past (especially the floating "molton iron" rings). The James Bond bit with the Queen was pretty cool. The Mary Poppins reference was cute! And of course, England didn't let us forget all of the contributions their artists made to music (but I don't know... the US might have a stronger hold on that one ;) Please don't hold it against me for saying that!

Btw, can you believe what happened at the 400m swim race?!?!?!?!?!?! I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen/read it, but it's Michael Phelps vs his teammate Ryan Lochte vs the other countries. It's crazy!!!!

Anyway, now for our features!

This will take you a step back to nostalgia, when you probably made little paper boats and set them loose on a pond (or pool or bathtub). Well, with pretty paper and some nice string/twine/yarn, you can have a playful and whimsical origami boat garland! Check this out at Meeha Meeha.

Sunday Linky Party #71 + Goodies

Hi all, hope you're having a good weekend so far! I have something important to talk to you all about, so please read! In the last party, I got a comment from a previous linker (who had been featured several times in the past) regarding me submitting my Sunday Linky Parties to Craftgawker using photos of her projects that were featured during those weeks. I understand where she's coming from, although this had not occurred to me before, so this presents a good opportunity to address the issue. I believe my part as the host of a linky party is to promote the party so that those who link up (and especially those who are featured) get traffic to their projects/recipes from my party. I'm sure you guys didn't join this party just so I can check out your stuff, right? (Although I do enjoy checking out your stuff :) I believe if you get any traffic from my linky party, then my party has been successful in some way, which means I promote each Sunday Linky Party through Twitter, FB, Pinterest, G+, Craftgawker, and/or other social networking or blog/web sites that I discover. When readers come to this party because they're initially interested in one of the featured projects, they'll see the other featured projects/recipes and will hopefully check those out, too. That is the strength in having a mix of projects/recipes on one page, where those brought here by one project will find themselves attracted to the others. I don't always promote on Craftgawker and haven't done so in several months, but I may do so in the future. As you may know, Craftgawker is notoriously picky about the photos they accept (even if your photo looks perfectly fine to most people), which means many blogs with truly noteworthy projects do not make it simply because the pictures aren't clear enough, bright/dark enough, have enough contrast, have good enough composition, are too close, are too far, the colors aren't true enough, etc etc etc. So when I submit a Sunday Linky Party to Craftgawker and they accept the photo, that means everyone in the linky party benefits, and they can thank the person whose photo was accepted. As you can see in every party, all features are properly credited and linked to the respective blogger, and anyone who comes to the Sunday Linky Party page can see that and head to your blog for the full tutorial/recipe. Since I look through every single post, I remember (probably) all the bloggers who've linked up in the past, especially those repeat linkers, some of whose blogs have advanced so much in layout and photo quality over months and even through the past year. Some of these bloggers' photos have really greatly improved, so that in the past, when their featured project photos might not have been Craftgawker-worthy, they benefited from another blogger whose photo was, but now that they have Craftgawker-worthy photos, newer featured bloggers can benefit. It's kind of like a circle of helping newer bloggers out as your blog becomes more stylish and established, just as more established blogs helped your blog out when you first started in these parties. (And then as your blog grows in popularity, you'll probably decide to graduate from linky parties forever).

Anyway, Craftgawker is emphasized more in this post since it relates to the linker's comment, but it isn't actually one of the main ways I promote this party. The point of this post is that, from now on, there will be a disclaimer in the rules of the Sunday Linky Party, which will read: "If you link up and are featured in the next Sunday Linky Party, you give me permission to use the photo that I feature to promote the Sunday Linky Party you are featured in. You are the owner of your photos, but I may use the featured photo to promote the party through Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Craftgawker, G+, and other social networking and blog/web sites. If you do not want your photo to be used, you can either link up and send me an e-mail saying you don't want to be featured, or you can not link up."

It never occurred to me to include a line like that, but having it makes everything clearer for me and all future, current, and past partyers. If you have anything you want to tell me, here's my e-mail: tres.petite.hermine [at] gmail.com (which you can always find at the top right corner of my blog).

Hope you're still having a good Sunday. Starting out with all this seriousness probably wasn't what you had preferred. I prefer having relaxing and laid-back weekends thinking about nothing in particular and getting some necessary housework done (especially since I'm generally tired from working all week), but this post has got to happen some time!

How (frigging) adorable are these viking slippers?!?! I want to know where I can get the fabric because it's fabulous! So whether you have this fabric or some other awesome one, learn how to make these slippers from Sew Can Do.

You Can Die From a Broken Heart

Here's an interesting study I read about on Yahoo. According to a long-term study from the American Heart Association, you really can die from a broken heart!

Sunday Linky Party #70 + Goodies

Happy Sunday all! There are some amazing craft projects this weekend, which I'm really excited about!  Definitely check them out, and the recipes in the feature too :) Hopefully my tastes resonate with yours (which means it's good, right? :) Have a great, relaxing, rest of the day!

These cyanotype prints are gorgeous and would make beautiful cards, stationary, and even wall art! I didn't even know what cyanotype was until I read about it on ArtClubBlog. Great tutorial!

Meet Falcor!

So, I adopted a doggie this past Saturday! He's a dachshund/poodle mix (or so he seems) and he was possibly a stray before the Last Hope Cat Sanctuary took him in. The volunteer who helped me adopt him, plus a few others I spoke to, didn't know how they got him or much about him at all, which is too bad because he's been living at the Sanctuary for 7 months and it would have been nice to learn more. How is this possible? Because apparently there are ~200 cats and ~70 dogs at this sanctuary and they were just running around outside in a huge field. Falcor didn't even know his own (previous) name and when I tried to call him over, a bunch of other dogs plus a cat came running instead while he just sat there.

Anyway, he is incredibly mellow so we paid the adoption fee, picked him up, and took him immediately to the nearest Petco for a flea bath.

Sunday Linky Party #69 + Goodies

Hi all, sorry the Party's late. Hubby and I adopted a dog today and that was an almost-whole-day event (calling in to the animal sanctuary, driving 2+ hours to get him, buying all the supplies, getting him a flea bath, driving back, etc.)  Our new doggie is a poodle/dachshund mix and looks like Falcor the dragon, so we named him Falcor :) I'll post pictures soon! He was a stray and nobody wanted him, but he's soooo sweet. Anyway, hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July, ate lots of barbecue, and enjoyed the fireworks! Check out the great tutorials and recipes this week, there's always something inspiring.

Starfish are such classic summer beach icons, and they are seriously visual wonders! Make a bunch of clay starfish for your living room-- they're really easy! Check out the tutorial at Twigg Studios. Also see her other tutorials: soda can labelsMoroccan tea glass votives, and beautiful flowers made from cardstock (seriously, how many ways can you make paper flowers and still have them look so gorgeous and realistic??)

Sunday Linky Party #68 + Goodies

Hi all, it'll be 4th of July (aka Independence Day) this Wed! Ready for watermelon and fireworks? I'm actually working that day so I'll be cruising on the highway with no traffic (my favorite part of working on holidays, especially since my commutes generally suck) Also, I'll be the only one in the office so that means I get to blast my music! My husband doesn't get the day off (being a resident and all), so I figured I may as well work, too.

Anyway, check out this week's fun and (some) festive projects and recipes! :)

Are you getting hypnotized by this picture yet? Apparently, this 4th of July pinwheel works, because this photo proves it, so find the tutorial with the printable pattern at Nifty Thrifty Things! Check out her diy fabric garland, too.

Why You Need Sunscreen

005 ZORRO after the summer vacation by edart

It's summer, the weather's hot, the sun is bright, and people are a little lazier (or maybe just me). But just as I was slacking a bit from wearing sunscreen everyday, I came upon an article on The Body Odd showing a picture of a 69 year old truck driver's skin after 25 years of daily sun exposure.

Sunday Linky Party #67 + Goodies

Hi all, I'm back! :) Please excuse my being a little late today. Hope you've all had several good weekends and a wonderful Father's Day! What kind of special activities did you plan for Dad? Anyway, I had lots of crafts and recipes to choose from this time so there are more features today than usual :) The recipe list is also much longer today so you'll want to look through them! Make dinner extra special today since there are so many recipes to choose from.

This super cute handmade notebook would make the perfect gift for your favorite diary-writer or artist... and making it together could be even more fun! Check out this great tutorial by Meeha Meeha.

On Vacation

Lolita's Beach Blanket by jenaardell

Hi all, I'm on vacation! I will be gone for awhile so the next Sunday Linky Party will start on June 24th. Meanwhile, here is the continuation of the Linky Party from last week (#66). The links from that Party will be featured on the Sunday of 6/24. Hope you're all enjoying this weekend and have a great Father's Day on the 17th!

Sunday Linky Party #66 + Goodies

Hi all! Hope you're having a good Sunday morning (and rest of the day!) I will be going on vacation for two weeks so there won't be a Sunday Linky Party for the next two weekends. The next Sunday Linky Party will start on June 24th! The links from this Party will be featured on that Sunday. Sorry for the inconvenience, I'm definitely going to miss out on some good stuff during that time. Anyway, get a load of the projects and recipes in the gallery below :) Enjoy!

Celebrate summer and beachy escapades with this cute starfish garland from Shaken Together! These are so adorable and easy to make. I also love the twine strings :)

Sunday Linky Party #65 + Goodies

Happy Sunday all! It's graduation season, which means lots of celebrations and traveling. I'm going to my husband's graduation in NYC this week (he can finally add "Dr." in front of his name!) and I'll be celebrating another good friend's graduation from my alma mater! I'm also planning to adopt a dog! Yay :) exciting stuff.

I reeeaaallly like some of the tutorials from last week (featured below), so I hope you'll like them, too. The last recipe makes me want to throw a themed party :)

This clutch is the perfect clutch, as Sew Into This calls it, and I don't see a reason to disagree yet :) It's super cute, I looove the fabric and admire the way the pattern is aligned even when closed. Great craftsmanship! Where can I get this fabric??

What Kind of Geek Are You? {infographic}

I found this infographic on Flavorwire and thought it was pretty cute. I think the "craft geek" should have also included "owning an Etsy shop," but clearly, a craft geek did not make this infographic :) Which one (or ones) are you?

Sunday Linky Party #64 + Goodies

Hope you're all having a wonderful Sunday! What did you guys do for Mother's Day last weekend? I spent the day hanging out with my mom and mother-in-law (separately!) and it was pretty relaxing :) This week is full of some very inspiring tutorials and some really great recipes (especially all the dessert ones). I'm so lucky because whenever I want to make something new, I can go back and look through all the Linky Parties. Now let's get on with the features!

Babies grow up super fast (which most people seem to agree with) so keep those memories close with this diy baby's footprint necklace, with your own baby's footprint! Seriously! And it's really easy too, and I love that it's so personalized. Get this tutorial from Hubby Made Me.

You Are What You Read

It's been awhile since I've curled up with a good story book (I've been reading a lot of how-to and informational books lately), so I think summer's the perfect time to get started on a new novel. After all, isn't there a whole section of books called summer/beach reads (or am I getting the name mixed up)? Anyway, you've probably already theorized this, but never found much evidence to back it up, until now, which is: when you read a work of fiction, your thoughts and behavior can change to match those of your favorite character, according to a study published by the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology (via an article I found from The Body Odd).

Sunday Linky Party #63 + Goodies

Happy Mother's Day! Hope you're all celebrating in your own special way :) Below is a gallery of great crafts and recipes that I'm sure your mothers would love (except that it's a little too late to make them today :) but I'm sure you've already got something planned!

This is really cool! Transfer your favorite photos and messages onto wood blocks with this tutorial (plus tips) from Bliss Images and Beyond. It's a little late for Mother's Day, but I'm sure you'll find some occasion to use this method ;)

Mothers

Mother's day is this Sunday... so let's reminisce our good old days together, of when we were young (and our moms were too!)

Sunday Linky Party #62 + Goodies

Happy Sunday! Yesterday was Cinco de Mayo, anyone spend the day/night partying? I actually didn't, but I watched the Avengers instead :) Anyway, next weekend is Mother's Day, so here's your chance to get some gift/recipe ideas if you're spending some time with her. I really like the bunting necklace tutorial below and I think I went on an unintentional small/portable dessert theme this week. Oh well!

Make this super cute fabric bunting necklace, and you don't even need to know how to sew! This necklace is seriously adorable. I want one so badly :) Good thing Twigg Studios made a tutorial. Check out her other amazing tutorials such as decoupage nails, birdcage business cards, silk flowers, and book/fabric cover.

What Success Looks Like

I'd like to be successful in life, (I'm sure most people do), but I'm still grappling with what it means to be successful. I think what I really need to do is to itemize what's most important to me over the course of my imagined lifetime and I'll find my definition somewhere on that list. But until then, this image that I found on Business Insider makes me feel much better about all the struggles I've encountered :) It's a tweet from Unilever's vice president. What do you think?

Sunday Linky Party #61 + Goodies

Spring has been going on, the weather's getting better, and it's not too late to start planting your garden! I bought some air plants (succulents that don't need soil or very much water) several months ago. The people at the store said that they'll pretty much live forever, but mine aren't looking too green anymore... Guess I need more practice as a gardener. Anyway, I can't wait to plant my own vegetable garden one day so I won't have to depend on the grocery store so much :) Do any of you grow your own veggies?

Give these mixed wildflower seed bombs to friends and save some for yourself. What a surprise it will be when the flowers start blooming and your friends will finally know what they've planted! Check out this idea at Cookin' Up Good Times.

Sunday Linky Party #60 + Goodies

Hi all! It's a busy weekend for me so this post and the descriptions will be quick and easy! I'm visiting my old alma mater and helping my husband move into a friend's place for his next month-long rotation (he's graduating from med school at the end of May! yay :) Anyway, here is the gallery for some super awesome projects and recipes!

A Day on the Internet {infographic}

Ever wonder what happens on the internet within 24 hours? Well, here's a great infographic (yay!) that shows us the big picture of how huge the traffic is on the web. It makes me feel quite insignificant, actually.

And below is an infographic telling us exactly how addicted (or not) we are to Facebook and Twitter :)

Sunday Linky Party #59 + Goodies

Well, it's been a rainy week and sunshine has just started showing. I just hope the sunny weather holds up because I'd like to do some hiking without getting sucked down into mud :) Now, let's get onto this week's gallery of features!

If you don't know what washi tape is, it's essentially really cute tape from Japan that can be used for decorations AND for taping stuff. It can also be hard to find, so the resourceful Nifty Thrifty Things shows us how to make it ourselves. These are perfect for brightening up presents!

Does Green Spark Creativity?

So I've been reading The Body Odd again and found an article that goes perfectly with Spring. It's a study that found that people who glanced at the color green for two seconds before starting a creative task performed more creatively than those who glanced at other colors.

In this study, published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin journal, 69 men and women were given two minutes to write down as many uses as possible for a tin can. A coder then rated each idea for its creativity and cleverness.

Sunday Linky Party #58 + Goodies

Happy Easter Sunday! I remember when I used to wake up to a candy-filled Easter basket on the breakfast table, with a note saying the Easter Bunny stopped by. Well, that doesn't happen anymore. I know it's not the meaning of Easter, but it sure made my mornings back then :) Anyway, hope you're all having a wonderful morning. Now onto the features!

You can have this beautiful wire ring that looks like spun gold and all you need is some copper wire. It's really really easy, as you'll see from A Rosie Sweet Home's tutorial. What a great idea!
